Noº 1 | Paperwork | Ryan Hill
PRESS RELEASE:
In 1993 Ryan Hill installed ‘Paper Trail’, a quadriptych painting on paper created to fit seamlessly into a Los Angeles City Hall administrative hallway. The paintings evoke WPA murals, drawing upon organizational charts, bureaucratic cartoons, and glitching fax machines.
In 2026 two of these large scale paintings have been unrolled from studio storage to be displayed again, this time outside in the Sonoran desert along the banks of the Santa Cruz river next to a municipal frisbee golf course.
This show serves as the inaugural installation of ENCLOSURE — a “location curious” space for art. These paintings severed from their context and displaced in time now sway gently in the summer breeze forging new relationships with their current surroundings. It kind of works!
PAPERWORK will be installed just before sunset on June 29, 2026 and will be de-installed by the wind most likely sometime shortly after dark.
peace,
E.S.
